Matcha Brownies with Kit Kats
I'm always on the hunt for a good matcha brownie (or is it blondie?) recipe, and I think I may have really found the best one yet! This recipe really baked like a traditional brownie - a moist crumb, with just a bit of fudginess if you take it out of the oven at the right time!
Normally, I would probably use white chocolate chips as a mix-in, but I had some white chocolate and matcha Kit Kats on hand, so I wanted to try chopping them up as a fun topping idea! Half of them I baked with the batter, and the other half I scattered on top right as they came out of the oven - I think I liked the ones that were baked in a little better.
I love this photo because you can see the texture of the brownie cross-section so clearly!
Matcha (Green Tea) Brownies
adapted from Couple Eats Food
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup salted butter melted
2 eggs
1 1/2 tbsp Matcha Powder
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup mix-in of your choice (for instance, white chocolate chips, or chopped up candy bars like I used here!)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 325F. Melt the butter in the microwave and let cool to room temperature.
2. In a bowl, mix the sugar, butter and eggs together. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and matcha powder.
3. Mix the dry and wet ingredient together. Mix in your chosen mix-in(s).
4. Pour the batter into a 9x9" square baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake the brownies for 27 minutes, or until the doneness is to your desired state. (If you like fudgy brownies, this should be just as the top layer has barely set.)
5. Let brownies cool for about 20 minutes before cutting and serving.
These are so worth a try - the best base recipe for a matcha flavored brownie I've tried yet! And with the method being so simple, I'd definitely recommend giving the recipe a shot :)
